Fitness is your life. Your fitness journey has been one of tremendous self-discovery. Through training and discipline you’ve accomplished things that you never thought possible. You’ve come to terms with the fact that you’re a constant work in progress and love coming up with new ways to challenge yourself as your goals change.

Instead of languishing in a job where you’re static, overworked, underpaid and under-appreciated, it’s time to take your first steps towards becoming a qualified fitness instructor and helping a wide range of clients meet their own health and fitness goals.

But how do you make the jump between being a fitness enthusiast and a fitness instructor? The Certificate III in Fitness allows you to take your first step towards an exciting, challenging and potentially highly lucrative career in fitness.

But it’s important to know what to expect on this exciting and popular course. Let us give you the full rundown…

What are the course requirements for a Certificate III in Fitness?

You may wonder if you are even able to study this course. But fear not. The answer is almost certainly yes!

There is no minimum educational standard required for entry to the Certificate III in Fitness. That said, there is a literacy and numeracy assessment that you are required to pass before the course commences.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that the course won’t be challenging. You will be expected to carry out independent research and study for which you will need access to a computer with a reliable internet connection.

You’ll also be required to find a suitable workplace in which to carry out a work placement and get your Log Book signed off. If you’ve been a permanent fixture at your gym for years, this may be a good place to start, although we can assist students in doing this.

What kind of stuff will I learn?

The short answer is… Everything you need to take your first steps towards a career in fitness. The course uses a range of practical and theoretical assessments to make sure that once qualified you can meet the needs of your clients.

You’ll gain valuable experience working in a real gym with real clients. You’ll gain the combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience that can help you to make the perfect start. And you’ll have our support every step of the way.

The course is split into 9 core units and 7 elective units. Within these units you’ll gain invaluable knowledge about;

  • How to develop fitness programs in line with specific needs (including specific populations and age groups).
  • Anatomy and physiology, and how to use them to deliver effective fitness programs.
  • How to provide health screening and fitness orientations.
  • How to maintain gym equipment.
  • How to provide first aid.
  • How to conduct group exercise or aqua exercise sessions (additional fees may apply).
  • How to work effectively in sport, fitness and recreation environments (including workplace health and safety, as well as risk identification and management).
  • How to carry out fitness appraisals and track your client’s progress.
  • How to deliver exceptional service to your clients and bring value to your personal brand so that you get more (and higher paying) clients.
